ver.di, Germany’s largest services union, is still running a feedback round through Monday morning, Aug. 31, on a package from the seaport employers’ association for about 11,000 workers: 5.1% higher hourly wages retroactive to Aug. 1, a €1.20/hour floor lift, €150 more holiday pay, and an A-Betrieb annual lump rising to €5,000 from Jan. 1, 2027, over an 18-month term. No Saturday settlement has been published. After Monday’s feedback, the federal bargaining commission accepts or rejects — another strike remains open. Employers call it a final package after a 24-hour warning strike Aug. 17–18.
Why it matters: if dockworkers strike after Monday’s vote, ships stop at Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, and North Europe cargo waits.

Ivory Coast still holds the farmer cocoa price at 1,200 CFA/kg from Sept. 1
Four industry and two government sources told Reuters the guaranteed farmer price — the price paid to farmers — stays 1,200 CFA francs (about $2.14) a kilogram for the main crop that opens Tuesday, Sept. 1, three days from this filing. That is the bottom of the 1,200–1,500 range set by the Coffee-Cocoa Council, the state cocoa board, after the March cut from a record 2,800. The board locked more than 1.1 million tonnes of forward sales at low prices earlier this year. Ghana is expected to keep about 2,000 CFA/kg equivalent. Low Ivorian prices risk smuggling into Ghana, Liberia and Guinea.

Indonesia’s state export middleman now dates its platform launch for Tuesday
PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia, a new state company, will switch on its commodity-export data platform Tuesday, Sept. 1, finance director Sinthya Roesly said at DSI’s Aug. 24 launch — a harder date than the earlier “September soft launch.” DSI is the mandatory middleman for coal, palm oil and ferroalloy exports under a 2026 decree (in force since June 1). It told CNN Indonesia commercial contracts can run through Jan. 1, 2027, with an evaluation then. A DSI note said it has already seen about 6,500 export declarations, more than $14 billion and over 90 million tonnes, through more than 50 ports. DSI says it does not set the export price.
Why it matters: Indonesia’s new state export middleman adds a gate to coal, palm oil and ferroalloys; Asian power plants and stainless mills pay from Tuesday.

Novorossiysk oil loadings seen below 350,000 barrels a day in August
Traders and LSEG shipping data, via Baird Maritime on Friday evening, put August crude loadings from Novorossiysk, Russia, below 350,000 barrels a day, down from about 800,000 in July, after Ukrainian drone attacks disrupted the Sheskharis terminal — Russia’s main Black Sea oil outlet, which had handled some 700,000 barrels a day. Loadings halted Aug. 14 and resumed two days later; traders expect disruption into September. About 600,000 tonnes of Russian crude is seen loading from the port in August, with the rest of 1.4 million tonnes Kazakh oil, including KEBCO. DW said grain terminals NKHP, NZT and KSK at the same port had already stopped.

MSC, the world’s largest container line, still refuses new Novorossiysk bookings
Mediterranean Shipping Company suspended new import and export bookings to Novorossiysk after a drone hit the 2,700-teu MSC Ulsan III on Aug. 25 as it sailed for Tekirdağ, Turkey; no injuries were reported and the ship proceeded under its own power. A customer notice seen by Bloomberg, confirmed by MSC’s St. Petersburg office, said weekly service stays down until security allows. Customers were told to ask the Russian agent about alternatives; St. Petersburg sailings continue. Lloyd’s List called Novorossiysk Russia’s main Black Sea gateway for oil, grain and boxes. Kyiv Independent dated the Bloomberg report Aug. 27.

Rostov declares a regional emergency as Azov grain piles up at the farm
Governor Yury Slyusar’s order, in force 6 p.m. Moscow time Friday, Aug. 28, named the situation since July 10 — ports shut, Azov-Black Sea shipping broken — a regional emergency because grain is stacking at farms and silos. Interfax carried the decree Friday; Ukrainska Pravda and NV reported it Saturday. Agriculture minister Anna Kasyanenko is to monitor losses. Almost a quarter of Russia’s wheat used to leave through Azov ports. After Novorossiysk’s three grain terminals stopped in August, more than 80% of export capacity is paralysed, Ukrainska Pravda said. Ukrmedia cited a 36.3% drop in the average monthly price of fourth-grade wheat.

Turkey presses Moscow and Kyiv for a new Black Sea grain corridor
Saturday reporting said Turkey is talking to Russia and Ukraine about a new safe-shipping mechanism for commercial grain, aimed at replacing the old Black Sea Grain Initiative. Kazim Tayci, chairman of Istanbul’s cereals association, said Turkish prices have already risen 4% to 4.5% and could rise more than 10% if the disruption lasts two months; Turkey’s grain processors exported $13 billion last year. A separate Saturday thread said the foreign ministry summoned Ukraine’s ambassador after drones hit two Turkish-operated commercial ships. Ekonomim was cited saying some 60 million tonnes of grain sit in Russian ports and 30–35 million tonnes of grain and oilseeds in Ukraine. No timeline was attached.
Why it matters: without a corridor, trapped Black Sea grain lifts costs for Turkish millers and for importers who used to buy that wheat.

Overnight strike at Izmail burns eight food trucks on the Danube grain route
The newest verified physical damage came overnight Aug. 28–29 at Izmail, the Danube port that has taken much of Ukraine’s rerouted grain. Ukrainian authorities confirmed damage to transport infrastructure and fires involving eight food-carrying trucks. Russia claimed it struck unloading areas; Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed damage to grain berths, elevators or loading equipment, so that claim is not counted as lost port capacity. Izmail and Reni already work under record-low Danube water. Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdenne, which used to handle about 90% of Ukraine’s grain, remain closed to that trade.
Why it matters: a strike on Izmail’s truck approaches slows the grain Ukraine still sends out via the Danube.

PT Kharisma Pemasaran Bersama Nusantara, known as KPBN Inacom, the state palm-oil marketing company, set crude palm oil at 15,800 rupiah a kilogram Friday, Aug. 28, on a Franco Dumai basis — 92 rupiah, or 0.59%, above Thursday’s highest bid of 15,708. InfoSAWIT published the tender sheet Saturday. FOB Talang Duku and Franco Teluk Bayur tenders were withdrawn. On Bursa Malaysia, the November contract was RM4,859 a tonne at Friday’s midday pause, up RM43 or 0.89%, Reuters said; Bernama had November closing RM4,894. Palm Oil Magazine filed the KPBN print Saturday afternoon Jakarta time.
Why it matters: a state seller posting the Dumai palm price is a government print that Malaysia’s futures still have to follow.

Nepal’s power company says 430 megawatts is off the Trishuli plants
The Nepal Electricity Authority, the state power company, said the flood took 430 megawatts off 14 or 15 hydropower plants along the Trishuli corridor. Acting managing director Dirgahyu Kumar Shrestha told the Kathmandu Post Saturday that domestic demand was still being met and that options were being discussed for restoring supply to Dhunche in Rasuwa. Makalu Khabar counted 13 damaged projects and 748 megawatts of affected capacity, including plants under construction; operating generation lost included 111-megawatt Rasuwagadhi, 60-megawatt Upper Trishuli-3A and 22-megawatt Chilime. NEA spokesman Rajan Dhakal said the Rasuwa project was swept away and Chilime buried, with damage in the billions of rupees. The Army is working 19 hydropower tunnels.
Why it matters: wrecked Himalayan plants take hundreds of megawatts off Nepal’s grid and erase surplus the country had meant to sell.
